Dermaplaning

What is dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a simple and safe procedure for exfoliating the epidermis and helping to rid the skin of fine vellus hair (peach fuzz). It has been used for many years and is seen as a celebrity must!

Dermaplaning is a quick procedure and it has quickly gained popularity among treatment providers. The treatment is performed by using a scalpel and a delicate touch and simply abrades the surface of the skin using light feathering strokes.

Patients are often concerned that the hair will grow back heavier and darker after dermaplaning. This is not the case. As long as the hair is superficial vellus hair, it will grow back at the same rate and texture as before the treatment. Also, by removing epidermal skin, this allows products to help penetrate more readily into the deeper layers. It is great for helping to prepare your skin for procedures such as laser treatments or deep chemical peels.

What can dermaplaning help with?

Deeper product penetration

Removing soft facial hair that traps dirt and oils

Promoting smoother skin

Removing dead skin cells and “peach fuzz”

Improving the appearance of acne scarring

Improving the look of fine lines

This is a great treatment for clients who are pregnant or nursing, who want a deep exfoliation, but are not allowed to use peeling agents on their skin. It is also a first choice for those who have excess vellus hair on the skin. This hair often causes a build-up of dirt and oils in the follicles, so removing the hair helps to provide healthier looking skin.

Microdermabrasion

What is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion helps to resurface the upper layers of the skin by using a fine jet of zinc oxide crystals to gently and painlessly exfoliate your skin while a special micro vacuum works to remove the crystals along with the dead skin cells. As the treatment is designed to remove the top layer of dead skin cells, it helps to accelerate new skin cell production and promote collagen and elastin growth. Microdermabrasion is designed to enhance the skin and improve the appearance of acne scars and fine lines, as well as skin texture and colour.  The treatment involves gently removing the topmost layers of dead skin, helping to leave the skin more supple and vibrant.

What does microdermabrasion do for your skin?

Microdermabrasion is one of the most popular non-surgical skin resurfacing treatments.'

The treatment helps with:

  • Uneven pigmentation

  • Fine Lines

  • Clogged Pores

  • Enlarged Pores

  • Post-acne marks

  • Uneven skin texture

  • Excessive oil

  • Dry Skin

Microdermabrasion can be an ideal option for people with dull skin, mild acne, acne discoloration, pick marks, and very superficial acne scars. Microdermabrasion can help individuals with superficial skin problems and there are no side effects or downtime. Individuals with deeper acne scars may require more treatments or benefit from having a skin / chemical peel treatment.

Skin Needling

What is skin needling?

Skin Needling or Micro-Needling is a form of Collagen Induction Therapy which is intended to improve the appearance of acne scars, aged and sun damaged skin, facial and décolleté lines, fine lines, crow’s feet, wrinkles and stretch marks.

It has also been useful in dramatically increasing absorption of topically applied skin preparations and also this has been very effective in promoting collagen.

How does skin needling work?

The concept of this treatment is based on the skin’s natural ability to repair itself whenever it encounters physical damage such as cuts, burns and other abrasions. Immediately after an injury occurs to the skin our body reuses the damaged collagen and elastin fibres as well as other damaged skin components to produce new ones. Skin needling allows for controlled induction of the skin’s self-repair mechanism by creating micro “injuries” in the skin which in turn triggers new collagen synthesis, but does not pose the risk of permanent scarring. The result achieved is smoother, firmer and younger looking skin.

How is it administered?

After the skin is numbed, the practitioner gently rolls or presses the Dermaroller/ Dermapen over the skin to puncture the outermost layers of the skin and create miniscule sub-cutaneous injuries. These microscopic wounds stimulate new collagen deposition which can last for up to a year.

What happens after treatment?

After the procedure the client’s skin will be red in appearance in a similar way to slight sunburn. You may also experience skin tightness and mild sensitivity to touch on the area being treated. This will diminish greatly after a few hours following treatments and within the next 24 hours the skin will be completely healed. After a few days there is barely any evidence that the procedure has taken place.

When will I notice the difference?

Visible results are seen after just 6-8 weeks following procedure and continue over the following months for up to a year. A course of 3 skin needling sessions, at 6-8 week intervals, is usually recommended to achieve optimum results, however great skin improvement can be noticeable just after only 1 treatment.

How skin needling can help your skin

Minimise the appearance of fine lines

and wrinkles

Improve the appearance of stretch marks

Improve texture and tone

Encourage the production of collagen

Minimise pore size

Here at No 59 Skin and Beauty Ltd we offer a variety of superficial chemical peels designed to tackle the most common of skin complaints. The procedure takes around 30-45 minutes.

What can chemical peels help with?

A chemical peel is a process used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck or hands. First of all, a chemical solution is applied to the skin that causes it to exfoliate, and help speed up cell turnover and - as a result - the new, regenerated skin may appear smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin.

During the chemical peel process, the chemicals work to react with the skin and dissolve the outer layers of the dead skin to help even the skin tone and texture and help promote the building of collagen.

The treatment causes a small injury to the skin, which helps it to not only build new collagen, but to “regenerate itself and make fresh, new youthful skin."

Here at No 59 Skin and Beauty, we use the CLINICCARE range:-

Pure BHA Peel is a mild salicylic acid peel suitable for acne treatment and the improvement of skin texture.

The CLINICCARE Pure BHA Peel is a light superficial chemical peel that will help remove the upper layers of the epidermis (pH 2.4).

This peel is suitable for acne treatments and can be used to improve skin texture.
